Minnesota (MN) is a state in the north of the United States. Minnesota borders Canada and is partly located on Lake Superior (Lake Superior). The landscape has dramatic rock formations in the north and mainly consists of gentler slopes in the south. It is striking that both the highest point (Eagle Mountain (710 meters) and the lowest point (183 meters, on Lake Superoir) are only 21 kilometers apart. Minnesota has a temperate continental climate, which is referred to within the climate system of Köppen-Geiger with the letter code Dfb This climate type has cool to fairly cold winters, with the exception of the northeast strip on Lake Superior, which has a slightly more moderate climate type, with less severe frost.

As cold as the winters can be, it can get as hot in the summer months. The maximum temperatures in the warmest month (July) are on average between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius. Compared to the more southern states, the chance of tropical heat is considerably smaller. The summers here also last less long, because the temperature drop starts already in August, after which September shows almost no summer days anymore. Throughout Minnesota, the winters are quite dry and the amount of precipitation increases towards the summer, after which it slowly becomes drier again in the autumn.
