According to Abbreviation Finder, Indiana (IN) is a state in the northern United States of America. Indiana is best known among car enthusiasts for the ‘Indianapolis 500 miles race’, which is often abbreviated to Indy 500. This race, which is held every year on the Sunday before Memorial Day, is one of the most famous motorsport competitions in the world. Indiana is a fairly flat state, located on average at an elevation of 230 meters above sea level.
Indiana has to deal with three climatic zones. A moderate continental climate occurs locally in the far north. In the south there is a small zone with a warm maritime climate ( type Cfa according to the Köppen climate classification). However, most of Indiana has a warm continental climate (also known as a warm continental climate), which falls under the Dfa category under the Köppen climate system. The climate of Indiana is characterized by warm to occasionally very warm summers, and winters in which frost and snow can occur for several months. For example, the average minimum temperature in the coldest month (January) is around minus ten degrees Celsius, while the mercury in the warmest month (July) is around thirty degrees. It can get a little warmer in the south.
The vegetation period in Indiana is between 155 days (in the north) and 185 days (in the south) each year. About half of Indiana’s snowfall is due to Lake-effect snow. During cold atmospheric conditions, cool winds blow over relatively warm lakes, freezing evaporated water and falling from the sky as snow further on.
