The state of Texas is located in the southern United States and is part of the Greater Southern States region. It is the second most populous state in the United States after California. Almost 30 million people live in Texas. Three of the ten largest cities in the USA are in Texas, namely Houston with 2.3 million inhabitants, San Antonio with 1.5 million inhabitants and Dallas with 1.3 million inhabitants. The capital of Texas is Austin with 948,000 inhabitants. Texas borders Mexico to the south. Namely to four Mexican states: Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas. The Texan city of El Paso is located on the border with Mexico, where the Ciudad Juárez is directly on the other side. This is the city notorious for hundreds of homicides annually and a drug crime hub. In some states in the USA, corporal punishment of students by teachers is still legal today. Texas is one of them. The highest mountain in the state of Texas is Guadalupe Peak at 2,667 meters. The climate in Texas is quite varied, ranging from extremely dry desert regions to wetter areas on the Gulf of Mexico, to which Texas has a coastline. Hurricanes and tornadoes also occur there.
