Bronx (USA) – description, history, location. Exact address, phone number, website. Reviews of tourists, photos and videos.

The Bronx is one of the districts of New York, named after the Swede Jonas Bronk, who once owned a significant part of the territory here, which was a lot of small farmlands. In the 19th century, the area began to develop at an impressive pace, largely due to the railways that connected it with the outside world. In 1904, the first subway line was drawn here from Manhattan. See itypetravel for geostatistics of Idaho.

The Bronx is the third most densely populated in the US after Manhattan and Brooklyn, and is divided into three boroughs. The East Bronx is considered the most prestigious, built up with decent high-rise buildings, in which quite wealthy people live. The North Bronx is more like a suburb of a big city. The West Bronx is greener, full of big parks and rolling hills. The poorest part can be called the South Bronx, which is home to many low-income immigrants: here to this day there are real slums, and night walks are quite risky.

About one-quarter of the Bronx is covered in parks and gardens. Among them is New York’s largest park, Pelham Bay Park, which has a lakeside beach, plenty of bike paths, and scenic picnic spots. It is also home to the New York Botanical Garden, with its marvelous greenhouses and many of the most incredible plants. The Bronx is home to one of the largest and most interesting zoos in the world – The Bronx Zoo: here you can observe animals from all over the world in conditions close to their natural habitat.

Many famous people have lived in the Bronx at various times. In the middle of the 19th century, the famous American writer Edgar Allan Poe lived in one of the beautiful cottages, and today his former estate houses the house-museum of the classic of world literature. In 1917, the Bronx became the home of the famous revolutionary Leon Trotsky.

And, of course, baseball fans from all over the world certainly come here: it is in the Bronx that Yankee Stadium, opened in 1923, is located. And here began the great history of the famous New York Yankees baseball team.

Many consider the Bronx to be a neglected and criminal area, especially since in the 70s of the XX century this was exactly the case. However, today the crime rate here is not so high, the area has been turned into a bedroom, remote from the noisy beat of Manhattan life. New Yorkers love to come here to breathe in the fresh air of numerous parks, visit the zoo or the Botanical Garden.

What to see in Brooklyn

If you have never been to Brooklyn, then try to make this moment unforgettable by walking there from Manhattan on the Brooklyn Bridge, which rises gracefully over the East River. Once in Brooklyn, take a closer look at Brooklyn Heights Avenue. From here you have great views of the Statue of Liberty, Governors Island and the Financial District. Brooklyn Heights and the district of the same name are especially beautiful at dusk, when the lights of skyscrapers are just lit, and numerous expensive villas, cozy restaurants, cafes and shops are already sparkling with might and main.

Not far from Brooklyn Heights is the historic high-rise center of Brooklyn. The few trees surrounding the skyscrapers are called Columbus Park. East of it is Fulton Street, a shopper’s paradise.

Having spent a lot of money, you can rush to another major Brooklyn street – Atlantic Avenue. Inhabited by immigrants from the Middle East, this street is filled with the right atmosphere. Numerous lively shops and Arabic restaurants contribute to this.

The Brooklyn Public Library and the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens are located near the low-rise Prospect Heights area. The latter is one of the best botanical gardens in the world and is ideal for romantic walks. Its peculiarity is the alley of aromatic plants, created for people deprived of sight.

Immediately behind the garden is a huge green area – Prospect Park. Here, in the open air, various concerts are constantly held. The Leffert Manor is also located here, where you can plunge into the everyday life of an American farmer. On the other side of Prospect Park is the famous Brooklyn Museum of Art, filled with historical exhibits and scandalous expositions.

Every Russian considers it his duty to visit Brighton Beach , the area where Russian emigrants live. Here you can hear your native speech, try dumplings, cabbage rolls, dumplings in Russian restaurants.

At the end of the tour of Brooklyn, you can get a lot of thrills from visiting the famous attractions of Coney Island (by the way, one of the scariest in the world). Many of them are located on the roofs and observation decks of skyscrapers, thus creating an unforgettable effect of flying into the Brooklyn sky.
