Brief Information About Middle East

The Middle East is one of the regions that can be considered a millenary culture worldwide. Since several centuries before our groups, humans traveled it in different directions.

In the Mesopotamia valley, watered by the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, an ancient civilization settled that contributed to the practice of agriculture to humanity; the city of Jerusalem is considered the oldest in the world; A great part of the biblical passages have as a geographical setting sites located in the area known as Palestine, located towards the west of the Middle East; Persian civilization, in present-day Iran, has existed for several tens of centuries and, finally, the region was the cradle of three of the most important monotheistic religions in the world: the Hebrew, the Christian and the Muslim. See Middle East abbreviations.

At an intermediate point between Europe and the Far East, the region has historically been desired by the great empires of yesteryear and later, by the interest of contemporary great powers. It was successively dominated by the Persians, Greeks, Jews, Romans, and Ottomans or Turks. In the last hundred years the Middle East has witnessed important events whose influence has been universal in scope.

At the end of the First World War the Ottomans, who dominated much of the region and who were defeated in the conflict, must withdraw in compliance with the agreements of the Versailles Peace Treaty, passing their territories into the hands of France and Great Britain.

The latter, which received control over Palestine, favored Jewish immigration from the beginning of the 20th century, especially after 1930, supporting the Zionists in their endeavor to create their own state within the Arab world. After World War II, the United Nations agreed by majority vote to partition Palestine into two states, one Arab and the other Jewish, emerging in May 1948 the state of Israel as a foreign body in a predominantly Arab-Muslim region.

From the first moments of its existence, Israel had the military support of the United States and has carried out several wars against its neighbors, even unilaterally occupying all of Palestine, the city of Jerusalem and other bordering areas, expelling or condemning their lands. to foreign domination to its legitimate residents.

The Palestinian cause, due to the evident rightness of its purposes, has won the support of the majority sectors of humanity, who are currently struggling to accelerate the steps for the definitive creation of the dreamed Arab state in areas of the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and Jerusalem.

The written, radio and television press mention them very frequently due to the events that take place and the terrible Israeli repression against its residents. The oil wealth of the Middle East has been a factor of singular weight in explaining the imperialist interest in it. The strategic nature of this resource in the contemporary world and the enormous reserves of it found in the subsoil of the Middle East, have placed it at the center of the appetite of the main current powers.

Not a few, bloody and endless conflicts have occurred in recent decades due to the combination of the aforementioned factors and others that, such as the inheritance of the imposed colonial borders, have caused wars between countries with similar origins and common interests and destinies. See countries in Middle East.

The Middle East, with its centuries of complicated history, its energy wealth and the problems inherited from the colonial past, seeks solutions that until today have been held back by imperialism and its main ally in the region: Israel. One of them, without a doubt, is related to the definitive creation of the Palestinian State, legitimate and sovereign.
