Why I use my Canon Ixus 300 so little… Image

The Canon Ixus 300 is a good digital camera, as was recently confirmed in the review .Nevertheless, it is most of the time unused on my desk, only for photos of my CyberBloc reports and perhaps the one or the other time for a weekend trip, I use the Digicam actually. On the other hand, the camera of my iPhone 4 is in the remaining time of an unequal use. What are my personal motivations for such a usage behavior and what general, future developments are the result?
Certainly, the photos of the iPhone 4 can not compete with the 10-megapixel images of an Ixus 300, but since I mostly only view most photos online, this is not very relevant to me and my friends. I also upload the majority of the images to Facebook, Mobile Me, Flickr or Picasa directly after recording, or simply send them via email or MMS. IPhoto on the Mac I do not really use, only to get the memory card of the Ixus photos from time to time. Alone this step of opening the Ixus, removing the memory card and then loading the images with iPhoto (or Picasa) from the memory card (or connecting the camera to a USB cable and then using iPhoto) is a process that takes place In the last 10 years. If the pictures are on the computer, I do the followings exactly the same as I with the photos on my iPhone handle-send, shoot up… whatever. However, the frequency of use and “speed” differ fundamentally. The Ixus I empty so maybe once a day, but also only if I would send the pictures as soon as possible to my friends, otherwise only a maximum of once a week or a month. The iPhone, on the other hand, sends the photos immediately: A few clicks, I put the iPhone back in my pocket and while I do something else, the photos are processed.
Perhaps this experience may not be applicable to all users, but the basic problem generally exists. If you look at the camera data at Flickr (here the Exif data are uploaded when uploading pictures), then you can see a trend: Flickr users use a large number of iPhones and entry-level DSLRs-but less classic compact cameras like the Ixus, Simple point and shoot cameras are no longer present among the most popular recording devices.
In addition, the statistics show that the trend for this genre is pointing downwards-fewer and fewer people with simple compact cameras are uploading photos to Flickr. In summary, the Flickr community is increasingly based on smartphone cameras, as well as on ambitious photographs with high-quality DSLRs.
Where is the problem?
From year to year the compacts get new features, have a better sensor, more megapixels, better lenses and a better display, but still none of the established manufacturers have managed to develop models that allow you to take photos instantly and directly Facebook, Flickr etc. -like “unsocial”. For example, it would do a simple SIM card and Facebook Connect.
With Eye-Fi there is, of course, a first approach to distribute shot photos over WLAN (which is installed in the map) into the net, but comfortably this configuration is not really. So you have to always have a wireless network nearby and also the prices are rather dissuasive. In the iPhone or other comparable smartphones this feature is already included.
What is the future?
The current trend is only one conclusion: with the increasing image quality of the smartphones, fewer and fewer people are seeing the need to buy and use a separate compact camera. Thus, in this segment (as in many others) there will be upheavals, the violence of which will surprise us. The future of “mobile snapshot photography” probably belongs without doubt to the smartphones.
