Guides to Idaho

Despite what you may have heard, Idaho is not all about potatoes. Just pick up a map of the area and marvel at all that green. The place is thick with national forest land, and the closer you get to the Canadian border, the less and less you think about potatoes. Okay, we admit it, potatoes are big business in Idaho, but so are wheat, forestry, fishing, and mining. And let's not forget tourism: Idaho's Sun Valley offers some of the finest skiing and outdoor recreation in the nation.

If it's the urban life you're after, you'll have to content yourself with modest places like Boise and Idaho Falls; and yes, there really is a place called Pocatello, and it's right here in Idaho. Most residents prefer the picturesque streets and hillside homes of Coeur D'Alene and the cozy villages of Warm Lake, Mountain Home, and Yellow Pine. And if you just have to have your daily dose of spuds, we must confess that among the finest we've ever tasted were a mashed garlic variety in an Idaho diner just off Interstate 84. Some things are just too good to pass up.
